Stage IV- Gráinne Daly

Another afternoon

folded up

beneath this fleece throw

in these worn slippers

counting

all the happy summers

in Courtown and Curracloe,

all the candles we’ve blown out

counting

the cost of this uninvited guest

who has come to seize my summers

and the flame of every new candle,

my guest invites me to another world

and being the good host,

I must oblige
